Social media is one of the most remarkable inventions of the 21st century. According to a buddy of mine that owns a collision center out in Texas and shared with me that studies show a significant number of travelers are now turning to social media for planning and executing excursions. So, how do travelers benefit from using social media? In the following chapters, we discuss how travelers use social media.

Inspiration for Travels

Statistics indicate about 30% of travelers in the US use social media to get inspiration for trips. On the other hand, 52% of travelers who use Facebook get trip inspiration from checking the photos of their friends and followers. This is mainly because most travelers often share their experiences on social media. By shifting through the content on social media, travelers can easily find interesting destinations and activities for their next trips.

Finding the Best Travel Deals

Owing to the prominence of social media, it is an ideal marketing platform for travel companies including, airline operators, hotels and other players. Although there are some marketing platforms, social media is more convenient, less costly and has a wider coverage. As a result, it is easier for travelers to get the best deals on social media. Thanks to the advancements in technology, travelers can now even do bookings directly on social media.

Sharing Travel Stories

Social media offers a platform where users can easily share their unique stories with the rest of the world. Travelers can share their experiences on social media in writing, through photos as well as videos. Besides posting their stories, social media also has provisions whereby users can freely interact through liking and commenting on the items.

As a Back Up

Whether it is done in writing or through photos and videos, the content shared on social media can remain there even for a lifetime if it is not deleted. This ensures that even if the camera or phone that was used to collect the content is lost or damaged, they can still be retrieved whenever and wherever there is need.

Overall, travelers use social media to inspire and engage others on matters travel. Some who travel as a means of earning a living also use the platform to market themselves.
