How Travelers Use Social Media

Social media is one of the most remarkable inventions of the 21st century. According to a buddy of mine that owns a collision center out in Texas and shared with me that studies show a significant number of travelers are now turning to social media for planning and executing excursions. So, how do travelers benefit from using social media? In the following chapters, we discuss how travelers use social media.

Inspiration for Travels

Statistics indicate about 30% of travelers in the US use social media to get inspiration for trips. On the other hand, 52% of travelers who use Facebook get trip inspiration from checking the photos of their friends and followers. This is mainly because most travelers often share their experiences on social media. By shifting through the content on social media, travelers can easily find interesting destinations and activities for their next trips.

Finding the Best Travel Deals

Owing to the prominence of social media, it is an ideal marketing platform for travel companies including, airline operators, hotels and other players. Although there are some marketing platforms, social media is more convenient, less costly and has a wider coverage. As a result, it is easier for travelers to get the best deals on social media. Thanks to the advancements in technology, travelers can now even do bookings directly on social media.

Sharing Travel Stories

Social media offers a platform where users can easily share their unique stories with the rest of the world. Travelers can share their experiences on social media in writing, through photos as well as videos. Besides posting their stories, social media also has provisions whereby users can freely interact through liking and commenting on the items.

As a Back Up

Whether it is done in writing or through photos and videos, the content shared on social media can remain there even for a lifetime if it is not deleted. This ensures that even if the camera or phone that was used to collect the content is lost or damaged, they can still be retrieved whenever and wherever there is need.

Overall, travelers use social media to inspire and engage others on matters travel. Some who travel as a means of earning a living also use the platform to market themselves.

How Travelers Make Money

Most people often think that travelling only involves spending money. Today, it is easier to travel and also make money on the side. In fact, there are many ways that you can now pursue to make money while traveling. You can use the money to enrich your life either by investments or funding future trips. Nevertheless, below are the main ways that travelers use to make money.

Travel Blogging

If you are a good writer and have the ability to produce killer content, travel blogging can be a decent way to earn some good money. There are freelance travel bloggers and those that are invited to fully paid trips by various travel companies. The main idea is to produce content that will inspire others to visit certain destinations, thereby giving business to travel companies. As a freelancer, you can also sell your travel stories, photos and videos to travel companies to help them generate business.

Teaching English Overseas

Many countries across the world are currently in dire need of English teachers. And, native English speakers are usually given first priority. While the requirements for the job vary from one country to another, there is usually not much experience needed. As such, teaching English is often an ideal way for most travelers to spend more time overseas while also making money.

Working Holiday Visa

This is also another way that most travelers pursue to explore new cultures and make money. Through this program, you are able to spend time abroad, working non professional jobs for a given period of time that can last up to 24 months. The program is open to people aged between 18 and 30 years old. For US travelers, working holiday visas are available to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Ireland.

There are other ways that travelers can still make money. However, it should be noted that just like other careers, making money through traveling requires commitment and patience. The money may not start coming in as you expect but, that should never discourage you.

How to Travel When You Lose Your ID

Your ID is one of the most essential travel documents that should always have in hand during trips. And, losing it can put you in very difficult spot. The good news is that you can still travel even after losing your ID. The following are guidelines to abide by in case you intend to travel after losing your ID.

File a Police Report

The first thing to do whenever you realize your ID is lost is to immediately file a police report. Filing a police report will give you protection against identity theft, preventing any third parties from using the ID.

Check into the Airport Early

After reporting the matter to the police, they will issue you with a document confirming the loss of your ID. However, you will still have to go through the screening process at the airport, which could be a bit rigorous than the normal procedures. Make sure you tell the airport attendants that you have lost your ID. They may also ask you to fill out a form and provide additional proof of your identity.

If your identity checks out, the airport officials will clear you to fly. Due to the additional screening procedures, it is advisable to arrive at the airport early, about two hours before departure.

Have Other Identification Documents In Hand

It is usually advisable to make copies of your ID and keep them separately when traveling so that whenever the original gets lost, you can still provide the photocopy. In case you do not have them, you should produce other identification documents to confirm your identity. The other identification documents that you will be asked to provide when traveling include drivers’ license, US passport, US Military ID, DHS trusted traveler cards among others.

Losing your ID when traveling can be humiliating. After taking all the above steps, you should begin the process of getting a new one as soon as possible for convenience.
